89.3 The Current Dashboard Widget

Expand your playlist with a little less effort.

The Problem, and the Solution

Whenever I listen to the Current, I hear a lot of great music I haven’t heard before, but want to hear again. Before this widget existed, I’d have to figure out what song was playing, and then manually add it to my list of songs to buy sometime. Later, I’d go through the list and decide what to buy.

This widget makes this whole routine much, much easier. Hear a song you like? Click on the star icon, and it’ll get added to the back of the widget. When you’re ready to buy, click the arrow next to the song to buy it on iTunes, or Amazon (your choice — I usually choose Amazon for DRM-free tunes, though).

Here’s hoping you’ll love this widget as much as I do.

  1. Simple, effective, and makes me want to listen to the current all day. Thanks Jeff.
(Everything is working on system 10.4.11 fine.)

  2. Thanks so much, Jeff! I’ve been looking for a widget like this for a while, and i must say that it excedes my expectations.

  3. Simply fantastic…pretty much exactly what I wanted in a widget, but didn’t know it. Thank you for your work on this!

  4. I’m noticing the times on the playlist are about one hour ahead. ie. when it’s 11:30am, the widget will say 12:30pm. Other than that it’s a great addition to the dashboard!

  5. i *love* this widget - and have many friends who also find it indesposable. however - the Current recently implemented a new playlist and the widget no longer works. please tell me you feel like working on an update!!

  6. @tyler: I will see what I can do. This weekend, hopefully.

    Jeff Keen 01.28.09 / 11pm
  7. Hey, great widget! Adding on to what David said, the time is off by an hour. Maybe it’s using eastern standard time as the default?

    Nick 03.30.09 / 10pm
  8. Great widget - thanks a ton!

    Matt 04.10.09 / 1pm
  9. Small bug report:

This morning, The Current played “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” and it appeared as a blank on the widget. Maybe an issue with the apostrophe?

    Great widget!

About

I think about interfaces a lot, and occasionally dream about programming. I'm always working on some project, which is why it stays pretty quiet around here.

When I'm doing doing any of that, I take photos, put down funky drum beats, make wicked sandwiches, and hold my own at pub trivia. I do all of the above for fun, and am continually searching for ways to make fun turn a profit.
